2023 CALL FOR MEMBER-ORGANIZED SESSION & WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
ASOR invites proposals for member-organized sessions and workshops for the 2023 ASOR Annual Meeting. For the third year in a row, the ASOR Annual Meeting will have both virtual and in-person components. The virtual component will be held online, October 18-21, and the in-person component will take place in downtown Chicago, November 15-18, at the Hilton Chicago. This year the format of the virtual component will include synchronous online paper presentations (as opposed to previous years when papers were recorded and watched in advance).
Read more about the format of the virtual component here.
Propose a Session or Workshop
Deadline for session and workshop proposals is January 15, 2023
ASOR members may propose member-organized sessions for papers around a specific topic or site, or member-organized workshops that minimize formal presentation (maximum length of 10 minutes) in favor of open discussion or activity. Sessions and workshops may be approved for up to 3 years and may accommodate both invited presenters as well as proposals from ASOR members through open call (with the approval of the session chair). Proposals for virtual-only sessions/workshops will be considered for only 1 year at a time.
The Proposal Form is brief, and the same form may be used to submit a proposal for the virtual component (Oct. 18-21), in-person component (Nov. 15-18), or for both. Proposals should include a session/workshop title, description, and a list of at least four potential speakers, indicating the subject of their presentation. Multi-year proposals should indicate a different theme or planned focus for each subsequent year. Proposals will be evaluated by the Program Committee based on the interest of the proposal itself, but also based on potential overlap with standing ASOR Sessions and with existing Member-Organized Sessions. View the 2023 List of Approved Sessions and Workshops to see what is already being offered on 2023 Academic Program.

Scholarships available: Due to COVID-19, and thanks to ASOR’s generous members, all current ASOR members with a need may request a 25%, 50%, or full scholarship for annual meeting registration. E-mail programs@asor.org with requests and a brief explanation. We will strive to meet all requests from members, with a preference towards those who have not received a scholarship in the past two years. We will do our best to meet requests from non-members and past scholarship recipients.
