2022 CALL FOR MEMBER-ORGANIZED SESSION & WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
UPDATE: The 2022 Call for Session & Workshop Proposals has ended. The opportunity to propose member-organized sessions and workshops for the 2023 Annual Meeting will be from December 15, 2022 – January 15, 2023.
2022 Approved Sessions and Workshops
ASOR’s 2022 Annual Meeting will, again, have both in-person and virtual components. The in-person component will take place November 16–19 at the Boston Park Plaza in downtown Boston. The virtual component will be held October 19–23. ASOR members are invited to submit proposals for sessions and workshops to be held in Boston, in the virtual component, or both in-person and online.
Deadline for session and workshop proposals is January 15, 2022
ASOR members may propose Member-Organized Sessions for papers around a specific topic or site, or Member-Organized Workshops that minimize formal presentations (maximum length of 10 minutes) in favor of open discussion. Sessions and workshops may be approved for up to 3 years and may accommodate both invited presenters as well as proposals from ASOR members (with the approval of the session chair). Proposals for virtual-only sessions/workshops will be considered for only 1 year at a time.
The Member-Organized Session/Workshop proposal form is simple and can be submitted online. Proposals should include a session/workshop title, description, and a list of at least four potential speakers, indicating the subject of their presentation. This year the form will ask to specify if the session/workshop will be held in Boston (Nov. 16–19), virtual (Oct 19–23), or both. Multi-year proposals should indicate a different theme or planned focus for each subsequent year. Proposals will be evaluated by the Program Committee based on the interest of the proposal itself, but also based on potential overlap with standing ASOR Sessions and with existing Member-Organized Sessions. A list of sessions and workshops that have already been approved for the 2022 Academic Program can be found here. Please read the instructions for session chairs to learn more about the requirements before proposing a session or workshop.
In early February 2022, after all session and workshop proposals have been evaluated, applicants will be notified if their proposal has been accepted for one or more years (if applicable). Accepted sessions will be listed online with the description provided in the proposal, as well as in ASOR’s Online Abstract Management System. The online system will open for paper abstracts and workshop presentation proposals from February 15 to March 15, 2021.
If you are interested in submitting a new session or workshop proposal, we encourage you to contact the Program Committee co-chairs, Helen Dixon and Allison Thomason. For questions about the application process, you may also contact Arlene Press in the ASOR office.
Scholarships available: Due to COVID-19, and thanks to ASOR’s generous members, all current ASOR members with a need may request a 25%, 50%, or full scholarship for annual meeting registration. E-mail programs@asor.org with requests and a brief explanation. We will strive to meet all requests from members, with a preference towards those who have not received a scholarship in the past two years. We will do our best to meet requests from non-members and past scholarship recipients.
