Every year, ASOR receives more applications for dig scholarships than we can support. Thanks to the generosity of donors who have supported endowment funds for fellowships, and thanks to donors who make annual gifts, we are able to support more and more scholarships every year. We are very proud that ASOR has become one of the largest sources for funding for individuals who want to participate in excavations in the Middle East and wider Mediterranean regions.
When we began the March Fellowship Madness season, ASOR had approximately $36,000 from endowment and annual funds to support 18 scholarships. We are thrilled that through the generosity of our members who contributed to March Fellowship Madness, we raised more than $6,500. This has allowed ASOR to award 21 dig scholarships – 3 more than at the beginning of March!
As we celebrate being able to award so many dig scholarships, we would also like to call attention to our named endowment funds that support these scholarships every year: the P. E. MacAllister Fellowships; Eric and Carol Meyers Fellowships; Shirlee Meyers and G. E. Wright Fellowships; Platt Fellowships; and the Strange / Midkiff Families Fellowships. If you would like to make a gift to one of these endowment funds, please e-mail ASOR for more information.
Reports from this year’s 21 dig scholarship recipients will be posted on the ASOR website in the fall.
