Scope and Contents
This collection includes over 300 cyanotype photographs depicting artifacts, architecture, and scenes of excavation work from the excavation of Nippur (in modern Iraq), conducted by the University of Pennsylvania from 1888-1900. In addition to their archaeological interest, the images are notable for their portrayal of the local laborers who worked on the excavation. Several of the photographs are supplemented by archaeological annotations that provide details related to Sumerian architecture. The author of these annotations is unknown.
