ASOR is accepting 2025-2026 applications for Mesopotamian Fellowships. The fellowships provide $9,000 for research on Mesopotamian civilization and are open to both graduate and postdoctoral students. The deadline for applications is January 13. ASOR invites proposals for member-organized sessio

ASOR invites proposals for member-organized sessions and workshops for the 2025 Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held in Boston and online, November 19-22. The brief proposal form asks for a description of the session/workshop, as well as a list of 4 to 5 potential speakers and topics. The deadline to propose sessions and workshops is January 15. ASOR's Program Committee (PC) is seeking 2 new mem

ASOR's Program Committee (PC) is seeking 2 new members to serve a three-year term (2025–2027) with the possibility of renewal. As outlined in the ASOR Program Committee Guidelines, the PC is responsible for the academic content of the Annual Meeting. We are particularly interested in applications from ASOR members whose area(s) of research and expertise include Cyprus or the Southern Levant, and alternatively, those whose fields of expertise are complimentary to or not represented by current members of the PC. Applications are due by January 3 (see link in bio).

ASOR's 2024 Annual Meeting took place November 20–23 at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza and online. More than 1,000 people registered for the hybrid meeting with approximately 850 attending in Boston. Jennie Ebeling (University of Evansvillie) received a 2024 Study of Collections Fellowship to study ground stone artifacts from Iron Age Tell en-Nasbeh housed at the Bade Museum of Biblical Archeology. Ebeling's research sheds light not only on the artifacts themselves and daily life at Tell en-Nasbeh, but also on the importance of legacy collections in current archaeological research. Former Albright Director (1980-2014) Sy Gitin presented the Albright Service Award to Hisham M'Farreh at the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research's Thanksgiving lunch earlier this week. Hisham and Finance Manager Nadia Bandak, who have both served the institute for 30 years, won the 2024 Albright Service Award at ASOR's Annual Meeting.

Prof. Glenn Schwartz presented at #asor24 the findings of what appears to be the oldest known alphabetic writing etched into clay cylinders, which were excavated from a tomb in Syria by a Johns Hopkins University team. The writing, dated to around 2400 BCE, precedes other known alphabetic scripts by roughly 500 years. See link in bio.
