Workshop on (Preserving the cultural heritage in Msallata and Zliten), The theoretical side of the workshop was held in Zliten
Scout Commissioner on 26 and 27 May 2023. The major workshop includes many activities and field studies, from 25 to 27 May 2023

Zliten Commission for Scouts and Guides, Regiment Msallata for Scouts and Guides, Msallata Municipal Council, Tourist Police Office and
Antiquities Protection Msallata, Msallata Antiquities Department Office, Zliten Antiquities Department Office, Al Asmariya Islamic University in
Zliten. Al-Zindah Museum of Ancient Artifacts in Zliten (private museum), Department of Historical Documents and Archives in Al-Asmarya
University.
In addition to archeology and history researchers, interested persons, and university professors.
First day: May 25, 2023
Tourist Police Station and Protection of Antiquities in Msallata. Handing over an indicative stand on identifying the Libyan artifacts most
smuggling.
A lengthy and expanded panel discussion on the diversity and importance of the cultural heritage in the region.
Excavations and illegal excavations in the area.
A Roman villa recent find, rare and previously unknown mosaic floors and fresco walls.
Intensifying protection patrols.
Visits to several Romanian olive oil presses.
Visits to giant olive trees from the Roman period.
Visit the Spanish fort in the middle of Msallatah. Lengthy discussions inside the fort. construction methods. An agreement to remove the modern
walls and restore the fort to its original state.
Visiting many Sufi shrines and minarets in Msallatah. It was protected and not affected by the destruction of extremism.
Many ASOR publications and pamphlets were handed over to the Tourist Police and the staff of the Antiquities Office in Msallatah.
The attendees of the events: 30 people, the head and members of the Tourist Police Station, antiquities researchers at the Musallah Antiquities
Office, and professors specializing in history and archeology.
Second day: May 26, 2023
(The important and essential role of scouts and girl scouts in raising awareness of the importance of preserving the cultural
heritage). Training and Lecture Center Hall, Zliten Scouts Commission.
Opening words: Commissioner-General of the Zliten Scouts Commission.
1) The Suitcase Museum project, the importance of awareness, presenting the problem.
2) Libyan artifacts, smuggling trips, sale in auctions of artifacts around the world, museums that display Libyan artifacts around the world.
3) The importance of preserving monuments and historical buildings for registration in international organizations to achieve more protection.
4) Sheikh poet and judge: Ahmed Al-Sharif, one of the important figures in Zliten.
5) The important role played by the Department of Historical Documents, Manuscripts and Archives at Al Asmariya University.
6) The Historical Cultural Competition – Distributing valuable prizes to the winning scouts.
Approximately 80 people attended this expanded session. Specialists and researchers of antiquities and ancient history, university professors,
notables, scouts, specialized civil society associations.
Third day: May 27, 2023.
A scientific symposium for history professors at Al Asmariya University and researchers of the Antiquities Office in Zliten and whom
interested in registering historical and archaeological buildings. Hall of training and lectures Commission Zliten Scouts.
Theoretical session: How to fill out forms and deal with international organizations specialized in registering cultural heritage landmarks.
Practical section: Multiple visits to important historical buildings in Zliten.
Attendees for this day: About 30 university professors, researchers from the Antiquities Office, and those interested in registering historical sites
and buildings.
Recommendations:
1) The interest in the tourist police in Msallatah, as they showed great interest and requested another scientific symposium specialized in Roman
sites and antiquities, as well as the Sufi shrines in Msallatah.
2) The two days of the workshop, which were spent in Zliten with the scouts and professors of Al Asmarya University, were crowded and
interesting, with a lot of momentum and smooth implementation. Recommending more activities with the Zliten Scouts, the University of
Asmarya, and the Department of Documents and Manuscripts at the University.
