The Membership and Outreach Committee and the Publications Committee are both ASOR standing committees, and both committees have three-year openings for new members (two positions on Membership and Outreach and three positions on Publications). ASOR invites self-nominations from members who are interested in being considered by the committees for these openings.
The Membership and Outreach Committee is currently chaired by Randy Younker. The ASOR Bylaws state, “The Committee will be responsible for making recommendations to the Executive Committee and the Board regarding matters dealing with ASOR membership.” As the name suggests, this committee oversees ASOR’s efforts to engage and support our membership. In addition to considering ways that we can best support our members, the committee has recently undertaken several initiatives to recruit and engage members outside of North America. The committee also oversees ASOR’s outreach efforts and public engagement initiatives. The Friends of ASOR (FOA) Initiative is one of the primary outreach programs, and there is a sub-committee for FOA that is a part of the Membership and Outreach Committee.
The Publications Committee is currently chaired by Charles Jones. The ASOR Bylaws state, “the [Publications] Committee will be responsible for making recommendations to the Executive Committee and the Board regarding matters dealing with ASOR publications.” The committee makes recommendations regarding ASOR’s journals (ANE Today, BASOR, JCS, NEA) and ASOR books (AASOR and ASOR-ARS). The committee also makes recommendations regarding the Levantine Ceramics Project (LCP). There are nine elected members to the committee (serving three-year staggered terms), and all of the editors are also members of the Publications Committee.
